etikamera was created in 2017 to mark the 20th anniversary of etika asbl. Since 1997, this Luxembourg association has been developing ethical finance in the Grand Duchy, in partnership with Spuerkeess.

The principle: allow everyone to save responsibly, and channel those savings towards projects with a social and ecological impact. In practice, etika works through several alternative financing solutions:

• the alternative savings account, which allows etika to subsidise — that is, reduce — the interest rate on loans granted by Spuerkeess to sustainable project holders;
• eticrowd.lu, etika’s crowdfunding platform, which connects citizens directly with the projects to be financed.

Over more than 25 years, etika has supported some 200 social and ecological projects — organic farms, renewable energy, solidarity housing, professional integration, biodiversity protection — for a total of around 115 million euros in loans.

etikamera brings these projects into view. For each edition, photographers go out to meet the project holders and document their work. The resulting series are brought together in a public exhibition, the high point of the competition, accompanied by an award ceremony. Since 2017, photographers both amateur and professional have revealed dozens of projects across the country.

In 2026, etikamera widens its scope: the competition now also opens to projects financed through the eticrowd.lu platform, alongside those supported by the alternative savings mechanism.
